A little history of the place
Although the northern part of the country is not among the most notable wine-growing areas in Romania, the development of vines here is a fairly old practice. The slopes of Ratesti have been known since the time of Count Károlyi, when the Swabian population settled here in the mid-1700s and established significant vine crops.
We recognize the primary signs of nearby viticulture with the help of a diplomatic wording specific to the times. The primitive engagements were additionally seen in the viticultural objects, in this way it is remembered about the "decimal guilt", that is the offering in wine to the church community and the "nonal guilt", that is the tax in wine to the master.
In addition, wine commitments to the church are mentioned in the twelfth century as "tributum in vino," meaning giving in wine. The basements submerged in the slope from Ratesti, but in addition from the neighboring areas Beltiug, Ardud, Homorodul de Jos, Hurezu or Dobra are also a declaration of viticulture on the Satmar lands.
A later record of the wine-making habit of the area comes from Ratesti in 1874, when at the global presentation of the wines from London, Bacatorul, an explicit assortment of this region, caused a sensation among the members. Today, due to environmental changes, the way viticulture is done here has changed a bit. Acidic soils and moderate environment lead to new white wines and adjusted red wines with maturing potential.
